Adopting a Mile of the American River Parkway - Volunteer Work at Rhombus

thumbnail

At Rhombus, we’re on a mission to build a safer future. Along the way, we’re weaving a spirit of community service into our company culture. While the Rhombus Team has raised money and done local cleanups before, we decided that at this stage in our growth, we wanted to commit to a long-term cause.

As a startup homegrown in Sacramento, CA, it made perfect sense to start local: Rhombus has partnered with The American River Parkway Foundation and adopted a mile alongside the American River!

Give Back to Sac

“As our company grows, we want to find ways to give back to the community that has given us so much,” says Garrett, CEO and co-founder of Rhombus. “We decided that adopting a mile is the perfect way to kick off our ‘Give Back to Sac’ initiative."

The American River Parkway is a beautiful part of Sacramento’s landscape and culture. It’s the largest urban park in the nation, covering 1500 acres over 23 miles and connecting Sacramento to Folsom. Thousands of people visit every year to hike, bike, float, and enjoy its natural beauty.

Rhombus is participating in one of The American River Parkway Foundation’s (ARPF) volunteer programs by becoming a Mile Steward. Mile Stewards care for a specific section of the parkway and are responsible for trash cleanups, invasive species maintenance, and more.

Every year, volunteers from The American Parkway Foundation clean up over 120,000 pounds of garbage.

“Our cleanups will prevent trash and debris from entering the ecosystem and help the environment recover from pollution and thrive,” says Alana Joldersma, a founding member of Rhombus’ ‘Give Back to Sac’ initiative. “In addition to keeping the space healthy and beautiful, it's also a great way to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty the parkway has to offer.”

Long-Term Commitment to Sacramento

The ARPF is full of incredible volunteers—some of whom have cared for the same mile for over 15 years!

This long-term commitment is part of the reason we chose to become Mile Stewards. We’re proud of our Sacramento roots and excited to be growing Rhombus in this wonderful city.
